Lake Powell accident

Lake Powell accident, One woman is dead and two more are missing after a boat accident on Lake Powell.

According to KSL, a motorboat and a houseboat collided on Lake Powell on Thursday. A 57-year-old woman who was sitting in the front of the motorboat was killed in the crash. Two other women, ages 29 and 22, are missing and presumed dead.

Rescue workers transported two people, including an 11-year-old girl, to a nearby hospital in Flagstaff, Arizona via helicopter. Kane County Sheriff’s Sgt. Alan Alldredge said that both of the passengers were conscious and did not suffer life threatening injuries.

Alldredge said that the accident occurred in a channel of the lake that is a “couple hundred” yards wide. It is unclear what caused the accident but Alldredge said that Lake Powell can get very crowded at this time of year.

Alldredge said: “This time of year, the lake can get busy and these kinds of accidents, even though they’re not rare, they do have a great potential for happening out there.”

Alldredge said that another person was taken to a hospital in Page, Arizona while the other people involved in the Lake Powell accident were brought back to the Wahweap Marina.

Thirteen people were on the motorboat during the crash. It is unclear how many people were on the houseboat but Alldredge said that no one on the houseboat was injured.
