Lori and Vardit Adler other kids named Pie and the Hebrew word for Honey

Lori and Vardit Adler other kids named Pie and the Hebrew word for Honey, In “The Seven” episode of Seinfeld, George tells his fiancée Susan that if they have a child – a boy or a girl – he’d like to name it “Seven,” after Mickey Mantle’s jersey number.

Now, in real life, Israeli couple Lior and Vardit Adler are taking after George and naming their new daughter with a quotidian word: “like.” The inspiration for the name comes from the “like” feature on Facebook, although the name is not intended to be an ad for the social networking site.

“We named her Like because it’s modern and innovative…I checked that the name does not exist elsewhere in the country; that was the main condition for me,” said Mr. Adler.

I wonder if the Adlers are familiar with Seinfeld, because their two other children also have unusual names, too. Because they like cooking, the couple named their other kids “Pie” and “Vash” (the Hebrew word for honey).

Not surprisingly, the Adlers announced the birth of their baby on Facebook.

“When I posted her picture and name on Facebook I got 40 ‘likes,’” Mr. Adler said. “Considering that I have only a little more than 100 friends on the network that’s a lot.”

I imagine that the initial reaction to a name like Like would entail skepticism and even distaste. However, if Seinfeld‘s social commentary and relevance to real life is as uncanny here as it is with many other episodes, maybe the name will catch on.
