On-field accomplishments: 1998 No. 1 overall NFL draft pick, 4-time NFL MVP, 10-time Pro Bowl selection

Alma mater, major, GPA: Tennessee, speech communication (minor in business), 3.61. Graduated in three years.

SAT score: 1030

Languages: “English and French.”

Off-field/intellectual interests: “Reading.”

What I’m reading now: “FDR: The First Hundred Days.”

Smartest teammate I’ve ever had: “Marshall Faulk. I had never played with a guy who just knew everyone else’s jobs.”

Manning attended Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, Louisiana. He led his team to a 34-5 record during three seasons as starter. He was named Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player-of-the-Year and Columbus (Ohio) Touchdown Club National Offensive Player-of-the-Year in 1993.

Manning stunned many when he chose to attend the University of Tennessee and play for the Tennessee Volunteers football, instead of Ole Miss, his father’s alma mater. He became Tennessee’s all-time leading passer with 11,201 yards and 89 touchdowns and won 39 of 45 games as a starter, breaking the Southeastern Conference (SEC) record for career wins.
